Compassion at Redeemer Central
As followers of Jesus walking in his ways compassion is at the core of all that we do within our community. Over the last number of years whilst compassion has always been written into the very DNA of Redeemer Central we have begun to expand what we do on a weekly basis to love and serve the place and the people who surround us on Donegall Street.
One of the themes of scripture shows very clearly that God is always on the side of the poor the marginalised and the stranger who finds themselves in a foreign land. We are utterly convinced that God is at work always on the margins and we are simply joining him in what he is already doing. Our heart would be that we as a community become more and more known for our work on the margins of society.

Every Tuesday morning our building is full of the women and children from the Aneka project who use 101 to facilitate many of their services on a weekly basis. All of these women have come to Northern Ireland as refugees and asylum seekers and it is our deep privilege to facilitate this morning with them and to enable them to find a safe and welcoming space within the city centre. Alongside our other projects we endeavour to work well with them and alongside them and build greater meaningful relationships between our community and theirs. It is only when we develop friendship and understanding and mutuality across communities that perhaps we see as “the other “do we truly learn to see the Imago Dei in each of us.
Friday Lunches
Every Friday at 12:30 we open up and serve a fresh lunch usually of soups and stews and fresh bread. We offer it to anyone requiring food and community and staff and volunteers are available to spend time with folks develop relationships and offer full support we can. These lunches not only offer a warm space and warm food but also the opportunity for connection and friendship and prayer and pastoral support as required.
The Pantry
At the same time as the lunch is being served on a fortnightly basis we open up our pantry and all for food fresh fruit and vegetables and meat and chicken and fish to those who are in food poverty. This is a small service that has started and his building in response to a recognised need. We have had the privilege to serve a wide range of folks and engage in good conversations with them about how we can further support them. It is our hope that this pantry will become a weekly service and with more funding can offer regular opportunity for people to access food that would otherwise be going to landfill and waste.
The Long Table
In February 2023 in response to the cost of living crisis and in the world following the pandemic we started to open our building every Friday night and serve a war nutritious meal to anyone in need. An incredible team of volunteers serves fresh food each week and we sit down together as community and eat together. In response to identify needs we now have available sleeping bags and tents sleeping mats and hygiene products. This is as a direct result of the tangible increase in people without a home accessing our support each week.
Day Trips & Summer Residential
In conversation with folks accessing the pantry we have learned that many people do not get out of the city and see the beautiful country that they have found themselves in. It is our plan to change that and we have started to plan days out and picnics outside of the city to explore nature together and develop relationship. In the last few years families from the Aneka project and our farm box project have gone on the summer residential and one is currently being planned for summer 2026.
