Introduction

Climate Change has fast become the hot topic of our generation. The milieu of political agendas, the environment, sources of energy, our global economy, increasing poverty, and the list goes on, highlights how complex this issue is. It can feel overwhelming at times. What is my responsibility? What is the responsibility of governments and corporations whereby systemic injustices need to be addressed? Sometimes as a consumer we have no choice and are dependant on systems that we are locked into.

What we do know is that more people are going hungry, extreme weather events are more frequent and severe, and entire communities are being displaced. We are on course for further catastrophic global temperature rises that will put our world and millions of lives at risk. Unless we act, climate change will push 132 million more people into poverty this decade. We know this is not God’s plan and we can help change this.

We can all play a part in responding to the changing climate by putting our faith into action. Speaking up for change and adjusting our lifestyle are great ways to respond – The more we can learn about a subject or situation the better prepared we are to take action.

Hannah, Conor and Emma have put together a really helpful Advent Eco-Guide to encourage us as a community to engage with climate change. You can read more about their heart and motivation for putting this together here. Delving into the world of climate change, for some of us, will be brand new and for others this is something that you are very passionate about. Wherever we are on the journey, let us encourage one another to take action where we can, make space for questions and listen well.

This Advent eco-guide aims to provide you with something to do each day to become more environmentally conscious. They are split up into three areas – global, national and domestic. We hope you find it helpful!
